In the vast realm of video games, it’s not uncommon for players to leave certain characters in limbo, untouched and abandoned. This rings true for my Remnant 2 character, among the countless others. While Gunfire’s sci-fantasy co-op shooter holds promise with its unique multiple-dimension premise and procedurally generated landscapes, it fails to compete for my attention. As I find myself gravitating towards older games like Into The Breach, I ponder if an enticing new game mode or additional content could bring me back to Remnant 2.

In a recent interview with Exputer, Gunfire Games president David Adams discussed the possibilities of reintroducing Survival mode from Remnant: From The Ashes. Survival mode would offer a DLC roguelike experience, where players start with basic equipment and gradually acquire new gear and experience by venturing through random locations. While Adams confirmed the team’s current focus on the second DLC, he hinted at their desire to explore a new game mode that scratches a similar itch. The addition of a quickfix, story-free session in Remnant 2 could be the key to rekindling players’ interest.

Gunfire Games takes an organic approach to their plans for Remnant 2, as Adams explained in the interview. The team actively experiments and tries out new ideas, such as the Aberration event, which they released for free based on their belief that it would be cool. This adaptive mindset leaves room for the possibility of new game modes and content to enhance the player experience, reinforcing their commitment to providing value to their audience.

Remnant’s first DLC, the Awakened King, faced mixed user reviews on Steam, with some players expressing disappointment in the reuse of an existing area, Losomn, as the setting. However, Adams reassured fans that the team plans to expand the existing worlds through DLC. This expansion does not limit their vision; Adams hinted that these new worlds could serve as the foundation for future games. The allure of venturing through the Crystal, not knowing where it will lead, resembling the adventures of OG Star Trek, holds the potential for exciting and diverse future gameplay experiences.

Gunfire Games remains tight-lipped about their specific plans for Remnant 2, leaving players curious and eager for more. Adams admitted to having several ideas in mind for additional worlds, but refrained from sharing them, given their potential incorporation into future games. This air of mystery creates a sense of anticipation and intrigue surrounding the future of Remnant 2, piquing players’ interest and fueling their imagination.

While Remnant 2 holds the potential for captivating gameplay and exploration, players often find themselves torn between new and old experiences. Personally, I harbor a feeling of guilt for neglecting games like Starfield, with my character Mary Read trapped in a broken simulation. The emotional obligation towards these virtual worlds becomes a burden, weighing on our gaming conscience. However, my Remnant 2 character finds solace in the company of a faithful canine companion, offering a sense of comfort amidst the guilt.

As Gunfire Games paves the way for the future of Remnant 2, players eagerly anticipate the introduction of new game modes that cater to quickfix, story-free sessions. The organic approach taken by the development team offers hope for innovative experiences that enhance the game’s value. The expansion of existing worlds through DLC opens up a realm of possibilities, potentially setting the stage for future games with exciting and unpredictable destinations. While the path ahead remains uncertain, the burden of unplayed games looms over players, reminding us of the countless characters left in limbo. Yet, amidst all of this, Remnant 2’s canine companion serves as a reminder that there is always a loyal companion waiting to journey with us through the gaming universe.
